KBR Building Group Participates in Youth Mentoring Program Sponsored by Houston's Spring Independent School District and Local Boy Scouts

KBR Building Group’s Houston office recently participated in “Dinner with the Experts,” a youth mentoring event organized by the Spring Independent School District and co-sponsored by Learning for Life – a division of the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The event was held on a Wednesday evening at the Spring Independent School District’s Child Nutrition Center in Houston.

The invitation from the School District’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) Department read, “We would like you to come out and share your journey up to and throughout your professional experience. The goal is to enjoy a culinary feast while engaging in thought-provoking and inspiring conversation that will motivate our male students to succeed. As you are well aware, our youth today face the negativity of peer pressure as well as many other obstacles that may interfere with developing a positive self-image and reaching their true potential.“

KBR Building Group “experts” Matt Wood, Randy Shepherd, Russ McLeod and Matt Daniel were among those who volunteered their personal time to help positively impact the next generation. Matt Daniel, Senior Vice President and General Manager for KBR Building Group’s Texas Operations, elaborated on the evening, saying “The event brought together local area businessmen with young minority male students to have informal conversations at the dinner table about career paths and what it is like to go to college. This was the second year for this event and everyone seemed to really enjoy the evening and benefit from the dialogue. After dinner, each of the business ‘experts’ had the chance to take the ‘mike’ and relay their individual inspirational messages to the group.”

KBR Building Group has teamed with local school districts across the country — many of them clients — on a broad range of community initiatives. Examples include Habitat for Humanity home-builds; landscaping of school grounds; and the Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentor program.
