BE&K Building Group Offices/Project Teams Give Back this Holiday Season
January 24, 2017

BE&K Building Group offices and associated project teams are known for proactively supporting their local communities in a variety of ways throughout the year. During the November-December holiday season, our offices and project teams chose to support their communities in various ways.

Our Greenville office employees collected children’s shoes, socks, toothbrushes/toothpaste for their local charity, Christmas Shoes, a ministry that began in Greer, SC in 1996 sponsoring 45 children. Today, Christmas Shoes provides over 1,750 pairs of shoes and other needed supplies annually to local children ranging in age from 6 months to 18 years. A pancake breakfast was also held for the entire office building to help raise funds for the charity. From Cheryl Carpenter, Founder of Christmas Shoes, “Thank you to everyone who sponsored a child or gave a monetary donation this year AND for the great pancake breakfast you all had in honor of Christmas Shoes. I appreciate your faithfulness and the support …. Our ministry could not exist without your help. Our goal is to make Christmas Shoes a 365-day ministry, and we’re pretty excited about that.”

Our employees in our Research Triangle Park office collected donations for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program in conjunction with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Carolinas Chapter. The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in local communities. Over its life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Program has distributed more than 510 million toys to over 237 million less fortunate children throughout the United States.

In Houston, our employees participated in the Blue Santa Toy Drive with the ABC Greater Houston Chapter and the Houston Police Department. Blue Santa Houston is a State of Texas organization dedicated to providing toys to as many underprivileged children in the Houston area as possible. The Houston team held a toy drive in the office and delivered over 60 toys for kids of all ages to the Houston ABC office that were later distributed. Our Houston office also worked with Christian Staples, Project Engineer for BE&K Building Group, and his Young Professional’s Committee within ABC Houston to help purchase bikes for children for the Changing Young Children’s Lives through Education (CYCLE) program. Christian was a part of the team that assembled these bikes to ensure they were ready for Christmas.

Our Charlotte office adopted a local family in need through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Myers Park High School. We are currently on-site at Myers Park constructing a new Science Building that is set to complete in 2018. Through the Site Coordinator of the Myers Park High School Communities In Schools Department, the Charlotte office was able to sponsor a mother and her seven children ranging in age from 5 to 21. Our employees graciously delivered Christmas to the family by supplying wrapped presents for each family member, a wreath complete with bow and door hanger, and a Christmas tree with a tree skirt and ornaments, topped with a ceremonial angel. Finally, a full Christmas dinner was provided for the family’s holiday celebration.

Stacey Weinstein, Site Coordinator with Myers Park High School commented, “This is unbelievable.  Your generosity and love toward this family is so touching … I am still filled so much from what your team of angels did for the family.”

The Charlotte office looks forward to following up with the family in late January to deliver donations collected from various employees and friends. Special thanks to Martha Shelley Design, Carolina Time, Clearsite Industrial and Simpson’s Tree Farm for their generous donations furthering the Charlotte office’s efforts towards this event and family.
