On Saturday, March 4, various BE&K Building Group employees gathered in Independence Park in Charlotte, NC to participate in the 13th annual Get Your Rear in Gear 5K to benefit the Colon Cancer Coalition.

Employees walked/ran as part of the Blue Ribbon Warriors — The Gray Family team, in support of Jane Gray Boland, Marketing Manager based in our Charlotte office, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in July 2014. Jane has persevered, against the odds, and has become a poster child at the Levine Cancer Institute for her progress, positive attitude, and high energy.

There were a total of 83 participants on the Blue Ribbon Warrior Team, up from 61 participants last year. BE&K Building Group walkers, virtual walkers and contributors included Mike Baumbach and wife Renee, Jane Boland and family of 12, Harold Brewer, Teresa Darnell, Tina McAdams, Mitzi Scarborough, Hailey Smith, Jeff Thompson and wife Laurel, and Candace Watson.

A total of $4,000 was raised by the Blue Ribbon Warrior team which will be used to educate and promote awareness for Colorectal Cancer, the 2nd deadliest form of cancer. Funds will also help support local screenings and programs for survivors, their families and caregivers.
