April 20, 2017

BE&K Building Group has begun construction on a new 113,585 square-foot Nursing and Health Sciences Building on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus located in Commerce, Texas. On March 10, 2017, a formal groundbreaking ceremony was held at which Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp and several elected officials were present. In addition to celebrating the groundbreaking, A&M-Commerce, the third largest institution in the Texas A&M System, also marked the centennial anniversary of its transition from private to public institution.

“We are very happy to be working with BE&K Building Group on this important facility,” said Texas A&M System Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs Phillip Ray. “This state-of-the-art building will provide a significant boost to the university’s academic and research activity, which will have long-term benefits for the region and the state. As an added bonus, it will be a visually stunning and memorable addition to the beautiful A&M-Commerce campus.”

Designed by SmithGroupJJR, the $54 million Nursing and Health Sciences Building, funding for which was generously provided by the Texas Legislature, will house the departments of Nursing, Health and Human Performance, and the new Biomedical Institute for Regenerative Research. The building will include specialized equipment and a simulation hospital in which faculty members and students will conduct advanced medical research. To address the regional health care shortage, A&M-Commerce is committed to equipping students with the necessary skills to promote health and wellness in Northeast Texas.
