March 23, 2018

The official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new state-of-the-art Florence County Judicial Center was held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 181 North Irby Street in downtown Florence, South Carolina. Billed as one of the largest publically-funded facilities in the nation, the three-story, 118,000-square-foot facility has a total of seven courtrooms, including three circuit courtrooms, three family courtrooms, and a probate courtroom. Additional facility space includes jury rooms, judges’ chambers, offices for the Clerk of Court and County Solicitor, and additional ancillary spaces.

Prior to security screening, visitors enter the facility’s light-filled queuing area through a prominent three-story rotunda. The Judicial Center features many high-end security measures, including card-access technology, bulletproof glass in administrative office spaces, and segregated courtroom access for the general public and those in custody. In addition, all courtrooms include advanced audiovisual systems.

The ceremony was attended by Tim Parker and Danny Mullis representing BE&K Building Group. State and local notables in attendance included State Senator, Hugh K. Leatherman, Sr.; 12th Circuit Court Judge, the Honorable Michael G. Nettles; and Florence County Councilman, James Schofield.

Tim Parker, Senior Vice President for BE&K Building Group shared, “It has been a pleasure serving the citizens of Florence in the construction of this first-in-class Judicial Center. BE&K Building Group has enjoyed several opportunities to partner with local communities to provide similar public facilities. Florence County has a new justice facility of which to be proud.”
