McLeod Health’s building program consisted of a new six-story, 188,000 sf Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed tower featuring 120 beds. Located above the hospital’s existing loading dock, boiler plant, emergency generators, and kitchen/cafeteria, the new tower was constructed utilizing deep caissons and long-span steel trusses. The scope of work included a new 6-story elevator tower. The program included a chiller plant expansion, replacement generator project, and hybrid operating room project. A 100,000 sf bed tower renovation project was later awarded, as well as an IV therapy and pulmonary oncology upfit. The bed tower renovation involved the existing fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh floors of the existing main tower. The IV therapy and pulmonary oncology area upfit was located in an existing medical office building adjacent to the ICU Tower project. BE&K also provided construction management services for a 2,100 sf bi-plane cath lab renovation.
