BE&K Building Group Breaks Ground on University of Houston-Victoria STEM Building

On Friday, November 16, 2018, BE&K Building Group broke ground on the new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) building for the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV). UHV students, alumni, faculty, and staff were joined by community leaders for the groundbreaking celebration.

The new STEM building will include lab space for computer science, microbiology, physics, computer engineering, and digital gaming; classrooms; faculty and staff offices; a seminar room; and gathering spaces. One innovative aspect included in the facility is an immersive 210-degree screen lab, which displays images that appear to surround the user, providing students an interactive experience.

“This is our first truly academic building on campus,” said University President Robert Glenn. “Our goal is to make UHV a destination university. We want to build a campus community that will attract students to want to live here and to be a part of this community. Not just for their time at UHV, but hopefully in the future as well, and to build a foundation for this region to prosper.”

BE&K Building Group, teaming with architect SmithGroup, began construction in November on the 58,000 sf building. Completion is slated for the fall of 2020.
