BE&K Building Group (BE&K) is proud to announce its partnership with GID and Frontier Scientific Solutions in providing design-build services to construct a new state-of-the-art cGMP cold storage distribution facility for the growing life sciences sector at Wilmington International Airport. This pivotal project is part of a $1.5 billion investment by GID, a real estate investor, owner, operator, and developer. The facility, one of three future phases, aims to accelerate the safe transport of biopharmaceutical products across the Atlantic, enhancing the connection between the U.S. and Europe. The strategic location of the facility, coupled with Free Trade Zone benefits, will streamline shipping processes for time-sensitive materials, ultimately benefiting patients in need of prompt, secure, and vital healthcare products.
BE&K will also support and collaborate with GID and Frontier Scientific Solutions overseas on the future construction of a sister facility at Shannon Airport in County Clare, Ireland. This strategic approach will bolster Frontier Scientific Solutions’ vision of establishing the first direct global gateway dedicated to life sciences, supported by GID’s forward-thinking investment to spearhead a shift in supply chain dynamics. The Wilmington and Shannon Airport facilities are projected to emerge as pivotal logistics hubs, dramatically shortening transit times and reshaping the biopharmaceutical supply chain on a global scale. BE&K is excited to be at the forefront of helping to craft a superior logistics network that will redefine the life sciences industry’s standards for speed, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
A celebratory groundbreaking ceremony was held on November 13 marking the initiation of this ambitious project and setting the stage for its development. The project’s initial phase commences with a $500 million investment that will produce facilities supported by approximately 150 dedicated employees. As the multi-phase project advances to full build-out, the projected investment could increase to around $750 million, employing more than 500 employees in a state-of-the-art environment.
