BE&K Building Group Breaks Ground on Frontier Scientific Solutions' New cGMP Cold Storage Distribution Facility in Wilmington, NC

BE&K Building Group and Frontier Scientific Solutions recently broke ground on a new state-of-the-art cGMP cold storage distribution facility located at the Wilmington International Airport. The milestone event drew approximately 200 guests, who learned about Frontier Scientific Solutions’ ambitious plans for its global gateway model.

Guest speakers consisted of Steve Uebele, CEO & COO, Frontier Scientific Solutions; Greg Bates, President & CEO, GID; Mike Hockett, CEO, CIL Capital; Doug Edgeton, President & CEO, North Carolina Biotechnology Center; Laura Gunter, President, North Carolina Biosciences Organization; Brian Clark, Executive Director, North Carolina State Ports Authority; Jeffrey Bourk, Airport Director, Wilmington International Airport (ILM); LeAnn Pierce, Vice Chair, New Hanover County Board of Commissioners; and Wyman Howard, U.S. Navy Rear Admiral (retired).

This pivotal project is part of a $1.5 billion capital commitment by GID, a leading real estate investor, owner, operator, and developer. As the first phase of a three-phase development, the facility will accelerate the safe transport of biopharmaceutical products across the Atlantic, strengthening connections between the U.S. and Europe. With its strategic location and Free Trade Zone benefits, this innovative approach will enable life sciences companies to transport time- and temperature-sensitive materials faster, with fewer touchpoints, reduced risk, and a focus on sustainable operations.

This investment reinforces Wilmington’s position as a key logistics hub for the life sciences industry. We are located in the middle of the East Coast with great highway access, minutes to a NC Port, and close proximity to Research Triangle Park (RTP), the largest research park in the U.S. Through this partnership with Frontier Scientific Solutions – combined with direct runway access and Foreign Trade Zone benefits – ILM is now poised to play a crucial role in advancing the global biopharmaceutical supply chain.
