BE&K Building Group and Boom Supersonic Celebrate Topping Out of Final Assembly Line Building
On Thursday, September 14, 2023, BE&K Building Group (BE&K) and Boom Supersonic (Boom) celebrated a major project milestone with a topping out celebration for Boom’s Overture Superfactory final assembly line (FAL) project in Greensboro, North Carolina. BE&K’s leadership, project team members, subcontractors, and Boom’s leadership and employees celebrated the event with a traditional beam signing. To commence the ceremony, Chris Taylor, Vice President of Manufacturing at Boom, took the stage to deliver opening remarks. Frank Holley, BE&K’s President + CEO, and Jason Boyles, BE&K’s Senior Project Manager, also addressed the audience. The celebration also included generous raffle prizes donated by Eldeco, Procon, Ace/Avant, Gamewell, Steelfab, Jetlen Supply, Solid Rock, AAR, and MR&D. Additionally, a lucky Gamewell worker won an Overture model plane generously donated by Boom.
BE&K is providing design-build services for Boom’s new 180,000 GSF FAL. In this facility, Boom will produce and assemble Overture, its supersonic commercial airliner. Overture will be capable of carrying 65-80 passengers and flying on 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at twice the speed of today’s fastest passenger jets. The FAL will be constructed with a focus on energy efficiency and will be LEED certified. This certification and the facility’s energy-efficient design will play a crucial role in Boom’s journey toward achieving their company’s net-zero carbon target by 2025.
The project is on track to reach completion in the second quarter of 2024.
