Children's Ambulatory Campus Tops Out

On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, BE&K Building Group celebrated the topping-out of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children’s Ambulatory Campus. Approximately 60 dignitaries were in attendance, including North Charleston’s Mayor, R. Keith Summey; MUSC Health Chief Executive Officer, Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., MHM, FACHE; and MUSC Children’s Hospital Chief Medical Officer, Mark A. Scheurer, M.D. BE&K Building Group was represented by Mike Baumbach, Harold Brewer, Ryan Lawrence, Jeff Thompson, Nick Kornas, and Chris Whitley.

Designed by LS3P Associates, the 100,000-square-foot, two-story building includes a pediatric outpatient surgical center, a pediatric multispecialty medical office building, and an urgent care clinic. The new facility will include 54 exam rooms, four operating rooms, two audiology booths, and diagnostic imaging spaces, including MRI, CT, X-ray, and ultrasound. The building is being constructed in active earthquake and hurricane zones, therefore the structure, exterior enclosure, and MEP systems have been hardened for additional protection.

“BE&K Building Group is proud to participate in the future of MUSC Children’s Health through the construction of their new Children’s Ambulatory Campus in North Charleston, South Carolina,” said Mike Baumbach, Executive Vice President. “Celebrating this construction milestone means we are one step closer to helping MUSC Children’s Health provide world-class and nationally recognized pediatric care to the families in this region.”
Construction is expected to be complete by the first quarter of 2019.
